Baldor SuperE motors

Background

If you are setting up a Premium efficiency motor such as a Baldor "Super E" be aware that they are not the same as a standard 60 Hz motor, they require a V/F curve to operate properly.

Here are several Baldor Super-E motor tags

Parameter A1-02

First set A1-02 to zero, this will enable V/F control instead of the open loop vector we normally use.

Set the Volts/Hertz parameters

Next use this document from Yaskawa to set the Volts/hertz parameters (it is attached to the manual)

Set up all other parameters as you would normally.

An autotune through drive wizard has also proven effective in the past but using the document is probably faster and better.
Drive Wizard with a release date of 2024-06-26 (version 2.2.2.31) or later will recognize the Baldor Super-E motors and provide appropriate parameters.

Zion's notes post install

We had issues with DC Bus overvoltage alarms at Federal Screw Works 30094.  Yaskawa provided special parameters for the Baldor Super-E Motors that fixed the issue.

I later tried to change the max Hz on the motor to scale my speed but got alarms again.   Seems like the Min and Mid volts/Hz were connected to the max in ways that made the special parameters special.  I didn't have time to play with it, so just left it at 60hz max.
