Calibration of X and Y Axis

1. Purpose

To calibrate the X and Y axis of the CNC machine when the tool is cutting into the fixture or failing to hold required tolerances.

2. Scope

This SOP applies to all CNC machines that require remote support calibration of the X and Y axis due to alignment or tolerance issues.

3. Responsibilities

·         Customer: To prepare the machine, establish network access, and follow instructions during the calibration process.

·         Support Technician: To remotely access the machine, guide the customer, and perform software-based calibration.

4. Equipment and Tools Required

·         CNC Machine with touchscreen interface

·         1/4" End Mill

·         MPG (Manual Pulse Generator / Hand Pendant)

·         Remote access via Wi-Fi or mobile hotspot

·         LogMeIn Rescue Technician Console

·         Internet access

·         Smartphone (if needed for Wi-Fi hotspot)

5. Setup Instructions

Customer Network Access Setup

1.      Tap the Wi-Fi icon at the bottom right corner of the machine’s touchscreen.

2.      Connect to a local Wi-Fi network using admin access or activate a mobile hotspot from a smartphone.

3.      Once connected, navigate to Start Menu > Element Remote Support.

4.      Open the support tab and wait for the screen to display “Waiting for Support.”

If Element Remote Fails to Connect

1.      Open Internet Explorer on the machine.

2.      Go to: http://www.logmein123.com

3.      Wait for the support technician to provide a 6-digit PIN code.

6. Remote Access Instructions (Support)

1.      Launch LogMeIn Rescue Technician Console.

2.      Look for the customer’s name and status: Online/Waiting.

3.      If using LogMeIn123, click + New Session, generate a PIN code, and provide it to the customer.

4.      Initiate the Remote Control Session once the customer grants access.

5.      Confirm visual access to the customer’s display.

7. Customer Procedure for Physical Calibration

1.      Insert a 1/4” end mill into the spindle.

2.      Manually jog the X, Y, and Z axes using the MPG (hand pendant).

3.      Position the tool directly over the pre-drilled center 1/4” hole on the fixture table.

o    Note: The hole may be obscured if a center fixture is bolted down.

4.      Take a photo to verify that the spindle is centered in both the X and Y axes.

8. Support Procedure for Software Calibration

1.      Navigate to the Home button in the TensileMill software (top left corner).

2.      Click on CNC from the middle of the page.

3.      Enter the CNC access password: Tensile123.

4.      The CNC software interface (Mach4) will now be visible.

5.      On the top toolbar, select Offset.

6.      Click on Set Center (top left corner of Offset screen).

7.      Confirm status bar shows:

o    X Offset Set ######

o    Y Offset Set ######

8.      Return to TensileMill main screen:

o    Click Home > TensileMill.

9.      Instruct customer to:

o    Reference all axes.

o    Start the program, setting speed to 10% for safe operation during calibration.

10.  If status bar reads “Nothing to start,” instruct the customer to cycle power and rerun the program.

9. Post-Calibration

·         Verify tool path accuracy by inspecting cut alignment.

·         If calibration is successful, restore speed settings to normal.

·         Log calibration date and technician notes in maintenance records.

10. Safety Notes

·         Ensure all safety guards and interlocks are in place before operating the machine.

·         Only trained personnel should handle calibration procedures
