Automatic Backups

Profile Backup

A profile backup is a small backup of just the files and directories that change often. By default, a profile backup is taken every ten days.

Mach4 Settings

The following settings are available in the MachMotion parameters, accessible through the Mach4 program:

  • Automatically Backup Files: this is a 'yes' or 'no' parameter to indicate if profile backups should be done automatically on the start of the Mach4 application
  • Automatic Backup Interval: this is the number of days between each automatic profile backup. It does not matter if the control was run or not within that timeframe
  • Retain Backup Count: to help manage space, old backups can be deleted when new ones are made. This number is how many backups to keep. Setting it to a zero will prevent old backups from being deleted.
  • Backup Location: This is the location for where to store backups. It is used for both profile and application backups. It should be a folder specifically for backups. A new folder will be created here for each backup taken.
Additional Settings

Directories and files to include in the profile backup can be set through the backup application, which is stored at C:\Program Files\MachMotion\Backup Program\Backup.exe. By default, the GcodeFiles folder and the Profiles folder are included in the backup.

Application Backup

An application backup is a large backup of all the Mach4 application. By default, an application backup is taken every 180 days. It is important that an application backup is done before updating the control or restoring to an older backup.

Mach4 Settings

The following settings are available in the MachMotion parameters, accessible through the Mach4 program:

  • Automatically Backup Application: this is a 'yes' or 'no' parameter to indicate if application backups should be done automatically on the start of the Mach4 application
  • Automatic Application Backup Interval: this is the number of days between each automatic application backup. It does not matter if the control was run or not within that timeframe
  • Retain Application Backup Count: to help manage space, old backups can be deleted when new ones are made. This number is how many backups to keep. Setting it to a zero will prevent old backups from being deleted.
  • Backup Location: This is the location for where to store backups. It is used for both profile and application backups. It should be a folder specifically for backups. A new folder will be created here for each backup taken.
Additional Settings

Directories and files to exclude from the application backup can be set through the backup application, which is stored at C:\Program Files\MachMotion\Backup Program\Backup.exe.

Restore

A restore can be done from an application or a profile backup. It can only be done directly through the backup application, which is stored at C:\Program Files\MachMotion\Backup Program\Backup.exe.

To do a restore, select the backup that you want to use. Then select the location where the backup should restore to. If you are restoring a profile backup, then you should select the profile folder to restore to. If you are doing an application backup, then you should select the Mach4 folder to restore to. After the locations are selected in the 'Restore' section, press the 'Restore' button. The status bar on the backup application will indicate when the restore is complete.
